Waikanae Lodge is set in the heart of the Garden Area and is bordered by established homes, beautiful gardens and the picturesque Waikanae River. It’s a place where residents can remain close to family, friends and community groups, while enjoying all the care, comfort and support that our community life offers.
Independent living or rest home level care
The village was architecturally designed in 1991 to suit the needs of older people, and is a licensed Rest Home and Private Hospital. As well as a full Care Facility, you’ll find tastefully designed Villas and Serviced Apartments, with a choice of one, two or three bedrooms.
By providing a range of accommodation options, we can cater for your current requirements and adapt to any change in your health or personal circumstances, giving you the comfort of knowing you’ll have the support and care you need.
As an Arvida village, we take care to listen and help residents to continue to enjoy the things they love to do. We also offer a one-on-one personal coaching programme offered by the Diversional Therapist that actively empowers residents to take charge of their own health and wellbeing.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. How does the Village Fee work?
The village fee is a set monthly fee that covers all the outgoings, including council and water rates, building insurance
and external maintenance, upkeep of community facilities, staff costs, gardening and management of the village. The
village fee is increased annually by the same rate at which your superannuation is increased. This will ensure that you are
protected from any increases in operating costs that are in excess of inflation.
2. Who pays for the refurbishment of the villa/apartment when I leave?
On termination of your ORA, Waikanae Lodge is responsible for all refurbishment costs associated with your villa or apartment.
3. What happens if my needs change?
At Waikanae Lodge we offer a full continuum of care so you can access additional care services while remaining in your own home. We can assist with meals, laundry, cleaning, access to doctors and nurses and 24 hour emergency assistance and the ability to transfer to an apartment or resthome.
4. Can my friends and family stay with me?
Yes, of course. When you move into Waikanae Lodge we want you to maintain your family and social ties, and even expand them! This is your home, so you can have guests over to visit or stay whenever you like. It’s up to you.
