When community, culture and cuisine come together

When community, culture and cuisine come together

Colourful flags and traditional garments were everywhere at Arvida Mayfair village’s International Food and Dance event recently.

The Upper Riccarton, Christchurch retirement community has over 22 different nationalities represented in residents and team members and the event was a celebration of diversity and inclusion.

A New Zealand haka, traditional Nepalese and Filipino dances, classical Indian dance, a Japanese choir and dynamic West African drumming were highlights from the day.

Arvida Mayfair Village Manager, Vicky Knipe says more than 80 people enjoyed the day, including residents’ families.

“The centrepiece was the large display of flags that were actually sewn together by one of our residents. It represented our diverse backgrounds that come together to form our community.”

The performances were matched by the selection of fresh international cuisines for everyone to enjoy.
