Waimea Plains is about living the good life and proving that age is just a number
The theme for Waimea Plains is living well. You’ll see it expressed in the architecturally-designed villas and townhouses, as well as the stunning clubhouse, which includes a kitchen, bar, TV lounge, piano and library. Outside there’s a big deck for alfresco dining and a full-size bowling green.
The clubhouse complements the bike trails and shared gardens that make this over-65 community stand out from the crowd. When Waimea Plains is fully complete, it will include a vibrant community centre and a specialised care centre for rest home and hospital-level care.
Located in Richmond, just 20 minutes’ drive from Nelson and within easy reach of Mapua and Motueka, Waimea Plains embraces new thinking about how independent living should be spaced within a retirement community. Villas are built in small groups. Groups of homes are linked by pathways for cycling and walking, which extend beyond the community’s borders to the surrounding recreational landscape.
Rather than a gated community, Waimea Plains is an open one. Friends and family are always welcome to visit and enjoy the pathways, park areas and clubhouse.
Village Manager Kerryn, and Sales Manager Gareth are both passionate about helping people live a fulfilling life as they age. Kerryn has been with Waimea Plains for a number of years and is an experienced nurse, so you can be sure you’re in good hands.

Sun-filled villas
Two and three bedroomWe have a range of two and three-bedroom villas that are light and bright with open-plan kitchen, dining and living areas opening to outdoor patios and lawns. All homes have an ensuite bathroom and separate toilet or second full bathroom, built-in wardrobes, laundry and internal access garage. All villas have the Lifemark 5 Star standard and are designed with usability and accessibility in mind.
Facilities & activities
We have a beautiful clubhouse where residents meet for activities and social occasions. We offer shared horizontal vegetable gardens for the community's use. Additionally, residents have the option to request individual vertical vegetable gardens to be built at their homes. Our close proximity to local cycle trails makes biking a very popular activity. We have even designed a custom 12 bike trailer to haul the eBikes for day and multi day cycle adventures.
Person-centred care options
If a resident is needs assessed as requiring long-term care and there is a suitable room available at a local Arvida care centre – Oakwoods and The Wood, they will have priority access over non-Arvida residents.
We are also finalising the design and plans for a Care Centre with Care Suites. The number and timeline for the Care Suites has not yet been determined.
