Hola, St Albans! residents embrace Spanish lessons

When residents at Arvida St Albans discovered Wellness Partner, Katherine Rodriguez's first language is Spanish, they had a simple request: could she teach them?

What began as a fortnightly class iearlier this year has quickly grown into a weekly gathering, with around ten residents and family members spending an hour together every Sunday learning the language. "They asked me where I was from and what language I spoke," says Katherine. "I told them my original language is Spanish, and they said they'd love to learn."

The group started with simple introductions and greetings. Today, they're learning colours, clothing, grammar and even Spanish music. "I'm not even a teacher, but I'm really enjoying it," Katherine says. "It feels good that I can provide Spanish to them and they can keep working on it. It's motivating for them."

Next on the agenda is learning Gracias a la Vida ("Thank You for Life"), a popular Spanish song. Once they've mastered the lyrics, the group plans to perform it for their fellow residents. It's a wonderful example of residents embracing new experiences, proving it's never too late to learn something new.
