More than a maintenance man

But Neil’s commitment goes far beyond seasonal chores. For Arvida Whai Mauri Ora community residents who plan to travel over the holidays, Neil remains a reassuring presence in the village. He’ll be there, keeping an eye on everything, so neighbours can go on holiday with peace of mind, knowing their homes are in safe hands.

Neil began his career as a small engine mechanic, specialising in chainsaws and lawnmowers, eventually building his own successful business from scratch and employing a team of six. After selling his company, Neil transitioned into the retirement industry, where he helped develop and construct a privately-owned village.

Today, Neil’s role in Arvida’s retirement village in Te Awamutu is all about making life easier for residents. Whether he’s hanging pictures, repairing blocked drains, mowing lawns, or fixing something that’s broken, his approach is always hands-on. He lives by a simple philosophy from his first boss: “Treat people the way you want to be treated.”
