Putting down roots at Arvida Lansdowne Estate
Residents of Arvida Lansdowne Estate in Masterton have been ‘digging’ their new Living Well Community so much they were keen to get involved and help with the native planting.
Residents had the choice of Kōwhai or Totara trees to plant near the walking trail gate entrance of the community with support from the Gardening team. The location for the new native trees was chosen to enhance the natural wetlands and local walking areas.
Resident, Denise Carr says it was a great opportunity to plant a Kōwhai tree for everyone to enjoy.
“We did want more native trees to bring in the tuis and other birds so we’re really happy to have more Kōwhai trees.”
The greenscape plan for the community, run by the team at Arvida Lansdowne Park, includes flowering trees and predominantly natives like Kōwhai, Houpara, Harakeke, and Taupata. The aim of the strategic planting is to specifically attract local birdlife into the retirement community.
Arvida Head of Design, Blair Cressy says when Arvida selects new community locations in the master planning process, they’re looking for those with unique natural features.
“We put in lots of effort to enhance and celebrate natural features through our overall community layout and design. We do this by creating walking links and visual connections to the surrounding environment, as well as incorporating local flora and fauna in our landscape design to connect the community to the unique aspects of each location and region.”
An example of this approach can be seen at Arvida Bethlehem Shores in Tauranga where a denigrated wetland has been restored and is now thriving. There’s also now developed walking paths around the wetland and view shafts created to enhance connections.
Arvida Lansdowne Estate in Masterton has new two-bedroom townhouses available now with a full size bowling green and Clubhouse under construction.
