An inspiring new community for Kerikeri
Sometimes Arvida acquires new communities by buying existing retirement villages, but increasingly we want to build communities from scratch. Starting with a green field is the best way to create a contemporary community that’s purpose-built for our ‘attitude of living well’.
Te Puna Waiora, the source of wellbeing
The latest example of an Arvida community built from the ground up is Arvida Te Puna Waiora, in Kerikeri. Local iwi Ngati Rehia suggested the name which is interpreted as “source of wellbeing”. When fully-complete, the community will include villas and Living Well apartments for independent living and care suites offering higher levels of supported care.
Tying all accommodation options together will be a range of shared facilities, including a café, gym, swimming pool and hairdresser. There will also be a clubhouse, to support day-to-day socialising, sports fun, hobby groups and special events.
The first villas at Te Puna Waiora | The Source of Wellbeing are nearing completion and we expect to welcome first residents in September this year (2021). When the community is complete, it will offer housing for 200+ people in villas and apartments, and another 80 people in care suites. In the Bay of Islands region, nothing compares to it. It will offer a full continuum of care for the over-65s. In the words of our CEO, Bill McDonald:
“We are designing for future generations, with the intention of enabling residents from the local community to ‘live well’ in every way without having to change address.”
