Visitors from Australia

With the opening of the New Zealand - Australia no quarantine travel bubble due to commence on 19 April, we wanted to give you a quick update on our guidelines for travel and visits.

Travel Update

A traffic-light system for the travel bubble has been implemented by the New Zealand government to respond to outbreaks in Australia in a timely manner: green; amber; or red.

  • At green: travel can occur between countries safely.
  • At amber or red: there may be community transmission risk and restrictions are likely to be imposed by the New Zealand government around travel between the countries. These restrictions may include a need to enter managed isolation or self-isolation when returning to New Zealand.

The simple approach we have adopted follows:

  1. If a change to the travel bubble means a resident, staff member, visitor or a close contact of any is required to enter managed isolation or self-isolation on returning to New Zealand, the restrictions and guidelines below must be observed.
  2. For all other travel from Australia, no restrictions are in place; although there will still be a requirement to sign in and complete a health declaration when visiting a care centre.

All residents should understand that overseas travel at this time is at their own risk and return to the Village/Care Centre will be managed in line with the guidelines set out below.

Prior to travel: Please provide an itinerary to your Village Manager advising the state(s) in Australia you will be visiting

While travelling: Keep track of movements and use the state apps and turn on Bluetooth for contact tracing purposes, and follow the golden rules (below)

On return: Please advise any deviations from itinerary, and check with Village Manager before visiting other residents / using communal facilities.

The Golden Rules

  • If you are sick, stay home. Do not go to work or school. Do not socialise.
  • If you have cold or flu symptoms call your doctor or Healthline and make sure you get tested.
  • Wash your hands. Wash your hands. Wash your hands.
  • Sneeze and cough into your elbow, and regularly disinfect shared surfaces.
  • If you are told by health authorities to self-isolate, you must do so immediately.
  • If you are concerned about your wellbeing or have underlying health conditions, work with your GP to understand how best to stay healthy.
  • Keep track of where you have been and who you have seen to help contact tracing if needed. Use the NZ Covid Tracer app as a handy way of doing this.

These guidelines should be observed whether you have been vaccinated or not.
